Bastard (yes, that's the name). Not many people seem to know too much about it. It's a 6 episode mostly action-drama fantasy series with some off-beat humor thrown in the mix. It's an interesting series that I don't see people talk about too often.

I dunno if Serial Experiments Lain would count as "unknown", per se, but it is an absolutely incredible series.

Try a little dose of The Enemy's The Pirates!, Combustible Campus Guardress, Sugoi! Masaru-san, or Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

For R1 stuff, try Birdy The Mighty, Starship Girl Yamamoto Yohko, or Assemble Insert.

hmmm...most people I know haven't heard of Boogiepop Phantom. It's nearly constantly being compared to Serial Experiments Lain, and I agree with some of the comparisons. In my opinion though, it is much much better than Serial Experiments Lain was.

Manie Manie (Neo Tokyo/Labyrinth Tales) is pretty unknown which is a shame since I think it's one of the best.
Memories is probably one of the best, if not the best anime movie out there.

1001 Nights is pretty cool as well and pretty unknown. I'm planning to make an AMV out of it sometime.

Combustable Campus Guardress I have fond memories of seeing, that OVA was a lot of fun.
