converting real media to a workable format

Post by Griffon_labor » Wed Aug 11, 2004 7:20 pm

Hey, does anybody know of a good program to use to convert Realmedia files to something workable, like AVI or MPEG.

Thanks.

Since I assume you have RealPlayer or RealAlternative installed, if you have the guliverkli (you know, Media Player Classic) RealMedia Splitter installed, you can decode RM with TMPGEnc or open it via AVISynth.

You can get the RealMedia Splitter by installing support for the Matroska format. That'll work a lot faster than EO Video (and utilize AVISynth filtering, if need be). It won't decode the audio though. Still, you can download a RealAudio plugin for dBpowerAMP Music Converter and get the audio that way. Then you can mux the video and audio together with VDub.

The RealAudio filter and dBpowerAMP Music Converter can be download from http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm. You must have dBpowerAMP Music Converter installed to use the RealAudio plugin. The RealAudio plugin is on the 'Codec Central' page under the header 'Other Codecs'.

The Matroska Pack can be downloaded from http://packs.matroska.org/. Either install the Full pack or the RealMedia-specific one at the bottom of the page.

That method doesn't take nearly as long as EO Video on slower machines, I've never experienced any sync problems, and it can be opened with TMPGEnc, AVISynth, or VDub (with the help of AVISynth). This is, of course, assuming you have one of Real's players or RealAlternative installed.

errr, then just convert it to huffyuv. converting it to rgb huffyuv which is 100% loosless, would allow you to have an avi version of the program without loosing video quality.

You open it in VirtualDub and save it using "fast recompress", "normal recompress", or "full processing mode" and HuffYUV as the compressor.

You don't "open" AVISynth like most programs.

AVISynth activates automatically whenever you try to open an .AVS file. You install AVISynth, you type up your script, you open it in something like VirtualDub or Windows Media Player, and bam, there it is.
