For me its simple.

Im a movie freak, I just gotta watch all the new movies and them watch them a bunch of times.

However! Movies over the past few years are begining to become more and more stale... same old same old bang bang boom boom or vroom vroom look at my japanese muscle car doing 250mph down this freeway..

Anime on the other hand give me the oportuinity to select from a mega fricken huge collection of; Action, Horror, Comedy, Drama, Samurai! and even Sci-Fi.
The Kenshin OVA's and Series are by far the best when it comes to that genre of action and drama, compared to any more out to date. (The last Samurai doesnt compare)
Another example is; How often can you see someone like Jim Carrey make an ass out of himself on the big screen before you go Tch, hes not -that- funny? For me it wasnt long at all.
But anime has the same old subtle comedy which I cant see getting old anytime soon. (Just my opinion though)
Storyline wise also, Movies are just plain and simple. This here is the main character, watch how he kills the bad guy.
Most animes have huge fricken twists and turns that keep you WANTING MORE!

So LONG LIVE ANIME! Thanks for giving me the -choice- to watch something that has a different approach than just the usual bs thats out these days.

For me its a couple things, one being that I love to sew so naturally when I was introduced to cosplaying I went on a frenzy ^_^ secondly I love how I can get so in to it and sometimes relate as I'm sure A LOT of people can. Lastly its something to have in common with people and its a good way to pass time with friends ^_^

it's simple, entertainment. It makes me forget about my day at work.. so yeah, anime is a good escape from reality

other good points:
art (drawings) / music / characters / emotionally charged (comedy/drama/action) / AMVs :P

Of course movies and and tv are comparable (yeah right!), but it's not the same, like someone said in a previous post, that market is getting stale and many subjects/angles aren't discussed just because they might not bring in profits at the box-office/advertisements or irritate groups of persons and generate boycotting against tv-stations / advertisers / movie houses.

Plus with anime, there's a fanbase, so it's fun to discuss them with other people who share the same passion.

Just my 2 cents..

PS: Talking about unedited series of course.

Well, to put it simple, anime keeps me into anime. As well as characters, entertainment, art/animation, story, and of coarse, AMVs. :D

I would say I stay interested because so many of the good series have so much to them, they are very involving and reference any number of historical events...

for me, it's all about voice actors, angst, and music.

voice actors: i'm a total VA/seiyuu fangirl. i know roles Scott McNeil's done, and can quote at least one line for most of them. Crispin Freeman's voice makes me melt into a happy little puddle. And listening to the Weiss sing together always makes me smile, no matter my mood.

angst: yes, i love angsty anime. when a character cries their eyes out over something happening or when a person finds out the dark and horrible truth about themselves is when i fall in love with an anime.

music: ah, the music of anime. Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts, Weiss, random other people who manage to make the pieces come together with the songs they create. If an anime has a good, strong opening theme, i'll like it (until it's conclusively proven that it sucks). i LOVE the openings to Wolf's Rain and Samurai Champloo.
Kudou Yohji is sinfully delicious.

The old stuff, that got me into it in the first place.

Comedy with a little bit of Action/Romance is always nice.

Example: One Piece (the REAL One Piece, not this Cock Box blasphemy with the same name  )

For me, I believe the appeal is on several levels.

*Conceptually rich, and thought provoking titles in production... From creators like ABe Yoshitoshi and Ueda Yasuyuki, BONES at Bandai Visual, Watanabe Shinichiro, Studio 4 Degrees, GONZO. With these people/teams in the industry I know that the next few years will be substantial.

*At times when I am downtrodden, worn out, depressed, a title like Excel Saga or those "Oro" moments in Rurouni Kenshin can bring a much needed smile to my face. When I view Millenium Actress, Rurouni Kenshin, or Saishuu Heiki Kanojo I am emotionally moved.

*As a writer/visual artist, I have an ever expanding outlook on how to express myself with various artistic media. Anime and manga have always struck me as a worthwhile, extraordinary medium from the start.
Unfortunately this is lost on a lot of westerners, which I think is a shame, because I believe anyone from any demographic can find something they can relate to with the sheer volume and variety of genres in Anime, had they not written it off as animated and not serious entertainment.

That's why I am proud to proclaim: Watashi wa otaku desu!
(yeah, that startled me as well...)

Don't let the post count fool you, I have been moonlighting as a guest here at a-m-v.org for almost a year now (forum and main).
