Is anyone here actually into REAL metal?

I'm very scary when I lack sleep

Anyways, I think most metal fans have raised their voice here now. The only direction for it to go now is the whole 'real music' thing.
Just curious, since we've heard from the metalheads, what's real music to most people, to counterbalance that particular stance?

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I was single for so many years too when I was in high school.
Then when I got to college I decided no more of this lone wolf crap. I needed to find somebody, thus the PM that Rei is reading right now.

Not to be too broad but to me all music is real.Real music? Anyone?
The fact that I call it music is a clue.
If it harms the art and is deterrent then it's not music to me.
Don't think there's enough space for me to detail all the genres and sub-genres and sub-sub-genres that I listen to.
All it matters is that I feel and connect.
The vibe...

Alright then we should take this section to the favorite bands thread, as I don't think a favorite genre thread would be wise. You don't have to like an entire genre to like one song or one band.
But then whatever. I'm too tired right now to comprehend what I'm typing (I first typed in drawing) so good night all.

Yes...having favorite 'genres' is almost impossible, as you probably wouldn't like every single band in that genre...
Same goes for 'most hated' genre too. There are strong anti-rap sentiments on this board, but I'd bet (a tiny amount of) money that there is at least ONE rap song out there that even the most rabid "I hate rap!" person can hear and say, "Wow, that's actually pretty good!"
Personal example. I'm not a big 'punk' fan. Period. I never got into it as a kid (my childhood musical interests was mostly classical, pre-60s country music, and the occaional swing band/march from the 1910s-1930s. Growing up with parents who are older than most people's grandparents does that to a kid). However, I like early Offspring (and current, but they've lost a bit of their 'punkness'), I like Green Day (if they're 'punk,' I'm always unsure) and Blink-182 (same boat as Green Day).
Genre classification is such a pain anyway....

Man, this reminds me of an argument I saw on Gaia the other day on whether Poison and Motley Crue were metal, being as they were 80s glam bands...
Personally, I stick to 80s stuff myself for the most part. Anything Iron Maiden, anything Judas Priest, Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Metallica's first 3 albums (and Garage Inc., just because I like the throwback to their old days), Guns 'N Roses, Van Halen...There are more, but that's all I'm coming up with off the top of my head right now...
