I'm not addressing the elements of the show, it's the writing/directing/pacing that makes it generic. Slow & heartfelt scene, insert lame joke, make someone blush, insert bout of clumsiness in order to facilitate transformation of characters. The first episode just felt more inspired, which is usually how things go since that's where anyone with a tight budget spends most of their resources. The parts where it cut to beeping and a deadly galnce from the "psychic chick" were well timed and priceless.
