70s-80s Disco / Funk Project - Official Project thread
Welcome to The Official Disco/Funk Multi Editor Project.
Updated October 21st 2004
I have decided to go ahead and start this project now while I have interest still in it. The deadline won’t be for a while, since I know a lot of you have other projects to work on. SO I’m setting the Tentative deadline to July 31st 2005. This deadline is negotiable.
Description:
This project will incorporate music and styles from both the 70s and 80s around a overall 70’s-80s feel and style of editing. Think Reflections of style, but in a disco/funkish atmosphere. Editing should try to match that feel. The project will be split into 2 sections, the first being the 70s style, editing done in the style of the 70s disco era, Then there will be an intermission segment, kinda like a short discography on the 70s error and a short introduction to the 80s, After which the 80s segment will begin. I have not yet decided on how I’m going to do the intermission, but I’ll think of something cool, possible involving original animation in the style of Big Big truck’s videos. If I can figure out blender in time, I may even make it 3d ^_- we’ll see.
I’m thinking of something very cool for the credits, but I may let DrngKreationz do it depending on timeframe, and once I see more work from him I’ll make that decision.
How to Select Tracks:
This Project will be a little different, in that you will be able to choose your own songs to edit to. You will need to choose a segment of the song, no less than 30 seconds, but no more than 60 seconds, and edit to that segment of the song. I will then mix the segments together using whatever transition methods I see works for that particular song, based on the editing in the track before and after. Therefore, 3 seconds before and after should be edited in a transition friendly manner. Don’t do any really cool edits you don’t want to loose in a transition in these areas ^_^
I have also prepared a list of songs for you to check out and give you a choice from, for those who are not as familiar with the 70s and 80s eras. Note, you are not limited to this list, it is just examples of songs you can choose from. If you have a favorite 70s or 80s song you want to edit to, and its not on this list, by all means, use it. The only rule is that it has to be disco or funk. If you are unsure, submit the track to me, and I will listen to it and approve it if it is acceptable.
Sample songs to use for tracks:
From the 70s:
Boney M - Rasputin
The Bee Gees - Night Fever

Rules and format guidelines for segment submissions:
Editing formats:
Editing should be done in 24fps Non-Interlaced and presented to me in Huffyuv format either by snail mail or an FTP address that will be provided at a later date.
Audio should be non-compressed Raw WAV.
Resolution should be 740x480 full screen (4:9 aspect ratio). 16:9 animation should be cropped to match this resolution. Final tracks will be cropped to fit this resolution if I get entries in 16:9.
The online distro version will be resized to 640x480 resoltion for the torrent, and probably 512x368 for Local.
On selecting tracks:
You may of course select from the list above, or choose your own not on that list. If you have suggestions for the list, post here and I’ll update the list above. Post to this thread claiming your track(s) and I will put your name beside the one you claimed.
Members may claim more than 1 track, but try to be reasonable, don’t claim 10 tracks if you know you cant make 10 quality tracks before the deadline. For now I’m going to put the tentative limit at 3 tracks per editor. This may change depending on how many people actually signup.
Tracks may not make it into the project if the quality is not high enough. I’m kinda leneant here, it being my first MultiEditor project, but I won’t take crap. You will be given the opportunity to make improvements/changes based on beta tester’s comments if your track is deemed not good enough for the project. This will probably be decided by all members of the project, not just me.
Specifics
Track lengths should be no less than 30 second, no more than 60 second. This may be negotiable on a case by case basis if the editor has good reason to use a longer/shorter segment. You may also mix up your track from diferent sections of the song to make a 30-60 minute segment. Submit this audio track to me to aprove the editing before working with it.
I may be contacted on AIM:bakkadeshi, or just post it here.
The song must be funk/disco from the 1971-1989.
Editing styles should reflect that of the 70s or 80s, whichever you choose to edit to. This is mostly an objective rule, but try to get it to feel as close to the 70s and 80s as you can get it.
Conclusion
That’s all I can think of for now, If I forgot anything, I will update this list. All correspondence should be done in this thread, similar to the Instrumental anime project. Thanks for your interest in the 70s-80s Disco/funk project, and happy editing ^^
I hope we can make this a great addition to the other multi-editor projects on the org.
Start claiming tracks ^^
Deadline for Claiming tracks: Currently not set. (I will set a deadline before actually closing it off though. I’ll edit this post. )

I do remember posting in the interest gauge thread saying I was interested. Well, if I did or I didn't it doesn't matter, becasue I'm very interested now. I'd like to use a song that isn't on the list but it would go in the 70's mix:
Song: Life Of The Party - Jackson 5
Anime: Metropolis
There will be no worries here about technical issues, I can meet those standards. One question though, can we use AVS filters that smooth and sharpen the video to make it look better, or would you rather everything looked the same and you perform any blends on the whole thing if you feel it's necissary? Lol, I probably answered your question for you right there.

I will allow it within reason. I don't want it to look overly blended however.themaan wrote:I do remember posting in the interest gauge thread saying I was interested. Everyone: Oh yes also be sure your tracks are deinterlaced properly.

I'm working on the official site for the project now, and a banner and all.
I'll try to host all the tracks on the website when its up, to aid people in picking a track to work with.

I might allow it for the project, but I'd prefer if you could at least send a full quality huffyuv to be used on the DVD. Even if by snail mail on a CD... If thats not possible, then I guess ya gotta do what ya gotta do.bum wrote:if i do get into this, any chance i can send a high quality xvid instead of a huffyuv ? as it would kinda reach the point of imposible if i had to upload a huffyuv file
