It's happen to me many of times, like I can play Chobits but not Angel Sanctuary. But from what I've been told there are different types of AVI and they are each read by different programs. Such as DIVX is usually downloaded as an AVI but I can't read them in Windows, but it will read them in my AceDIVX player. Maybe someone might be nice enough to tell you which is what...just thought I'd share what I know. Or think I know :-/

Erm... the reason files dont play properly is because you lack the proper decoders. In which case, you will want to install ffdshow: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ffds ... e?download

Could you post a more specifick eroor message, that way we could awnser beteer to your problem.

Right now my best guess is that your windows media player does not support all your .avi types

Try this player: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/med ... assic.html

windows media player classic! 8-)

Or you can try the Gordian Knot Codec Pack
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.

ive downloaded a few .avi videos, and i get a message the header, or index, is ruined so it cant play, and one of the video's was from mindwarp, so would it be my player? it refuses to play one mpeg2 file while all the others i have play fine.

If the header is bad then the file is corrupt.

If you can get it to open in VDubMod and reconstruct the missing index block, then save via direct stream copy, it may work... I've successfully done that before with a corrupt .AVI.
