You are 100% wrong about the internet connection. Software (including most online software) runs off of your processor and memory. Some runs off of the internet. My sister plays them crazy flash games on yahoo, and they lag like fuck, but she gets a great ping. She's running on a p2 333 with 384 RAM, XP Pro SP2, and her computer runs quite decent.Zanos wrote:well its not always a ram deal sometimes its either just your internet connection i have DSL so nothing bothers me untill my brother puts up his bitturrent but mozzilla also has a popup blocker that goes with it... or if is not your internet connection then it may just be that your prosseser is slow and you need a new and faster one...
Mine is a p4 3.0 ghz with 512 RAM, XP Pro SP1 (laptop) and it runs awesome. Firefox takes less than a second to load, as do most of my other programs.
To get your comp to run faster without upgrading, turn off all the unnecessary software (any cursor programs, weather programs, anything that's basically not needed). I'm running all the needed system processes, a firewall and a half (netlimiter and sygate firewall), mIRC, Firefox, GAIM, and UltraMon (multimonitor program) at startup. I only use 210 (out of a gig and a half) mb of my swap at almost any given time when I have just those running.
And to get back on topic... Avatars are just a fun little thing you can have under your name, sometimes people look at the avatar and know who's posting...

14mb seems fairly acceptable.

I definatly do that. In fact I sometimes forget people have changed theirs like Kusoyaro. There are definatly a lot of immediatly reconizable avatars here like AD, Arigatomyna, Old Wrench, AMV_4000....bum wrote:Ithink of it this way. This is the only forum I ever visit regularly. Other forums look aweful to me with the gigantic sig avatar and sidebar information on a post that you can barely even find.
Also the status bars, gah! I give respect where it is earned, not based on number of posts. You have to learn who is respected in a comunity and who is not, you can't quantify that sort of thing.

^Wholly agree.
When people start changing avatars or *gasp* two people have the same one...
It makes one have a minor confusion.
Do the old 'double take', so to speak.
Indeed some forums limits are exorbitant.
Truly I see no reason why a signature has to take half a page.
As for the status bars...
In some forums they're almost an elitist tool.
In others it's not that way, The Heavens for example.
Semi-intelligent conversation?
Wasn't this about avatars?
I'm actually glad.

But come on, change though I might, it's way the heck too easy to recognize me most of the time.
I'm always the one with something weird/unpretty/freaky on there

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Actually this --> is what defines you.
People see a rollie and they think of one of us two.
A rollie with pacifism and a "weird" avatar and it's you.
A rollie with sarcasm and whatnot with a female avatar and its me.
Immensely simple.
