Dead Leaves - Really inane, really insane 50-minute movie with psychadelic animation.
Read or Die OVA - technically...it's a 4-episode OVA. But it's the same length as a movie, it comes on one disc, and it's damn good.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack - I think it stands pretty well on it's own, because I'm only vaguely familiar with Mobile Suit Gundam the series. It's very good, quite a tragic storyline.

It was inevitable: the scent of bitter almonds always reminded him of the fate of unrequited love.

ANN says that Green Legend Ran is a 3-ep OAV. But it is self-contained, so maybe it meets spec's.Tsunami Jones wrote: Akira
Both the Ghost in the Shell Movies (yes there's the GitS series, but the movies basically stand alone)
Green Legend Ran
Metropolis
Ninja Scroll
Some old ones which you might be able to find for cheap(er):
A Wind Called Amnesia
Night On the Galactic Railroad
Roujin Z
Windaria (Once Upon a Time)
They Were 11
Lensman
Wrath of the Ninja
Dirty Pair movies (the old ones)
Three more Miyazaki films will have U.S. releases later this month: Porco Rosso, Nausicaa, and The Cat Returns. All of them are worth owning.

I didn't know that, since the DVD strangely gives no indication that it is. Oh well, good to know.TaranT wrote: ANN says that Green Legend Ran is a 3-ep OAV. But it is self-contained, so maybe it meets spec's.

I'm not sure of you age, but if your old enough to have a job it should be ok. Plastic little, a humorous one disc movie, the extras include a jiggle counter, need I say more. Also, not a movie, but Best Buy has Golden Boy essential anime set, two discs. six episodes, for 13 bucks, Great entertainment for a low cost.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

Sorry, need to make a change.
"L.I.L.Y. Cat" is really "Lily C.A.T."
Also I would like to add "Armitage: Dual Matrix" though it wasn't all that great seeing as how this one focused much, much more on CG than the previous movie. The story-line was cool though.
