First of all, get rid of AOL all together. Then, get the good ole Mozilla Firefox web browser ( http://www.mozilla.org ). Next, stop using Real Player and get something like Media Player Classic, VLC Media Player or BSPlayer. All of them can be googled for, and I don't have the sites on hand, so I'm directing you to google to look for those programs. Then, after that, some say the Gordian Knot codec pack works best, others think that ffdshow is all you need, but it all depends on what you want to do with it. If you're watching stuff in just AVI or MPEG, then ffdshow is the best way to go (again, i don't know the site offhand).

I know I was vague on stuff, but I hope this helps...

Are you on dial-up? And AOL is your internet service provider (the company that lets you connect to the internet)? If so, you don't have to use the AOL "browser", just the connection information.

Connect the way you normally do. Then open a different 'browser' - a program, like opening microsoft word when you already have notepad open. They're just two programs that do the same thing - and one does it better.

You can open your AOL and *also* open a different browser. The point is to download with the other browser (firefox, opera). You can still use aol to connect, and to surf the web. You just open firefix/opera when you want to download something.

You're not replacing AOL. You're getting something else to do what AOL won't do properly.
