Super Search Suggestion
I'd like to see the addition of a music genre search and a selection option for when you create a video. I think it would not only be helpful for people looking for a song they do not know the title/artist for and for creators looking for good examples of how particular music genres are treates.

Considering that it's questionable if half the bands in the list are even spelled right to begin with AND that genre is not currently a field so there's no genre info for anything in the database currently then I wouldn't hold your breath if I were you. About the closest you're going to get right now is to assume Dance uses mostly upbeat songs, Action uses mostly rock, Drama uses mostly slow songs, Sentamental uses mostly sappy crap, etc.

It's actually been suggested before if i remember correctly. The problem was that people can't come agree on what songs should be in what genres. This further coupled with the problem of groups/fans of groups not wanting to be labeled as a certain genre, everybody wan't to be "new and different" so people (mostly fans with their heads up their asses that define themselves by the music they listen to) will whine when "hyper death rock" (or any other daily changing term for similar subgenre) isn't in its own category.

Well, if you know composer names, it's not that hard.Scandia wrote:I kinda agree. I do want to search at times for classical music videos. And I do not want to run into 500 ones by Linkin Park to that anime before finding the Tchaikovsky and Mozart ones made long ago.
Er...wait. Actually, it is, because people can't even get THAT right. Here's an example. The string for "Dance Dance Revolution 7th Mix - Look At Us Now" is wrong: the artist is Sarina Paris, the track name is "Look at Us", and it's the DDR cut.
In any case, what's "classical"? Say, is some of Michael Nyman's work, like the Gattaca soundtrack, "classical"? It certainly has such influences; indeed, one of the tracks, "Impromptu for 12 Fingers", was inspired by Schubert's "Impromptu in G-flat Major, Op. 90, No. 3".
How about Elliot Goldenthal's soundtrack for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within? (Regardless of what you think of it, it's marketed under the Sony Classical label. What does that mean?) Do you define "classical" temporally? If so, when in time do you draw the line, and why?
Are traditional Asian melodies "classical"? How about early American hymns? Does geography have anything to do with it? (You'd think this would be an easy question, but it's amazing how many people restrict "classical" to European composers without really justifying why.)

Oh, here's some more:trythil wrote: Are traditional Asian melodies "classical"? How about early American hymns? Does geography have anything to do with it? Does instrumentation have anything to do it? Rearrangement? (Many orchestras perform slightly rearranged versions of classical songs; does that have anything to do with it?) Where would you put, say, Walter (now Wendy, but whatever) Carlos' Switched-on Bach?
