No, it is not.

I just opened up my AVS script for Azumanga Daioh episode 8 in WMP9, and it plays fine.

Isn't normal? Do you have any ideas how to fix it? Though... I suppose it doesn't really matter cause I can always just use the classic player...

No, I meant that it wasn't "just WMP9 sucking".
Don't know if it's normal or not, but if I got it to work without doing anything weird to either WMP or AVISynth, then it shouldn't be.

I have a tendency to test these things if possible whenever I see someone blame a problem with a program on the fact that Microsoft made it.
I'm quite unfond of such lines.

But yeah, unfortunately I have no idea why it wouldn't be working.
What version of AVISynth do you have?

It has been my experience that WMP 9:

Generally has slightly higher cpu usage than my preferred players when playing back most file types.

Is more prone to lock up or crash when being fed oddball stuff like .avs files, .avi's with a softsub stream hacked into them, .mkv files, etc.

Is bloated, and has an ineficient user interface.

Therefore, I consider it to suck.
Sometimes it's better at handling stuff that uses proprietary microsoft codecs, though.

I only have one good guess at something that might help:

Right click the WMP 9 title bar, choose Options, then the Privacy tab. Uncheck every box on this page, with the possible exception of "Set clock on devices"

If there's any sort of problem with corruption of its history file, or it's trying to retrieve 'net information about a file that doesn't have any, this might possibly help.

I'm not one to knee jerk a generic "M$ sux" response about the company's software, I happen to love WMP 6.4, and use it as a base standard by which to judge all other players.
When I want more features and controls than 6.4, I use Media Player Classic.

WMP 9 is important to have, I try to pre-test any video I'm putting up for download in several players, including 9, to test compatibility.

If none of this works, a full delete/update/reinstall of the latest versions of all codecs and utilities you use might be in order, but it's never a good idea to do that while in the middle of an editing project. Too many chances to break something.

Yeah? Sorry... I'm actual not really serious about it- it's more of a joke I have with my friends. "Blame it on Microsoft"- just a joke, nothing serious... Actually, WMP 9 is my media player of choice ^_^

I have version 2.5- it's the one that came with the AMVapp. It's weird because it works fine in WMP 9 on my Win 2K desktop. But my Win XP computer is another story... I think it may be that my Win XP computer doesn't have internet access, so I haven't downloaded the updates. Perhaps if I installed version 10, that would remedy the problem.

FurryCurry:
Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try. Though, I already tried the uninstall-reinstall, and it didn't help at all

I'm A CompSci student, so blaming Microsoft is a kneejerk reaction. Most of my professors (in one of the top schools for computer science in the country) refer to the failures as the ones that go work for Microsoft. Of course, they also make snide remarks about people not using Macs and Linux/Unix in general.

Microsoft has become a business first and a software disigner second, rushing to make deadlines at the expence of quality (lack of bugs, non-bloated products, that kind of thing). The count on the average Joe's lack of motivation to learn alternative software so that their products continue to stagnate. They have no modivation to produce anything of quality because they hold a vast majority of the market in the palm of their hand.

Entry into the software market in any feasable way is prohibited economically because of the super-wealth that is the microsoft corperation and is further hampered by the spell that a vast majority of the people that use computers is under.

I feel validated in disliking microsoft products... But i still support their evil ways by buying computers preloaded with their software. I suck :(
