Thing was, I was broke back then o_0;;; So I had to live off of anime that aired on public television... When I finally bought my first anime DVD, complete with original Japanese track, my introduction, and ensuing envy, of Japanese culture began.
Most music I listen to now is Japanese- most of it from anime. Learned about the different scripts used in writing Japanese. Memorized the Hiragana, though I'm a bit rusty currently. Even developed a sweet (And FREE!) Java Program that teaches Hiragana and Katakana (If you'd like to check it out- see my homepage and visit the "Japanese" link- I don't think you'll be disappointed). Bought a text book and dictionary online so I could start learning Japanese. Even bought a rice-cooker, cause I thought it would be cool to make rice balls and stuff... too bad I'm such a horrible cook that I can't cook rice even when I have a device dedicated to only that task T_T
So yeah, that'll give you some idea of my level of obsession ^_^
I like computers, programming, and learning about video compression standards and video editing- so the thought of making AMVs sounds really cool to me. I have a vast DVD collection, so I expect to be able to output a good quality (as far as cleanliness of the footage goes- artistically, I'll have to wait and see) AMV soon
