I think that is utterly ridiculous. First of all, I find it offensive that you feel it is your gift to discern what constitutes perfection. When it comes to art, things will always be subjective- there isn't such a thing as perfection- only opinion. And while your opinion is that it is perfect, my opinion is that it is horrible. I think it is bad because it doesn't advertise the site at all. If it wasn't for the logo, I wouldn't have any clue it was advertising anything to do with anime, music videos, or anything on this site. And not only does it not advertise the site well, but, in my opinion, is completely negative. Many people think of abortion as an abomination- and don't want to be associated with it- yet alone visit a web site that seemingly advocates it. And for those who support women's choice, and abortion, I think the text is rendered in such a way as to give abortion a bad connotation. But whether you support abortion or not is irrelevant, because the simple fact remains that this website is about anime music videos, and not your political beliefs. All in all, I completely despise this banner. That is my opinion, and you are entitled to yours.

That's fine- everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I think you misunderstand. She doesn't care. That doesn't mean she dislikes it or thinks it's unworthy, it means she doesn't care.
You are correct, I misunderstood. I understand that some people don't care about banners. And that's fine too.

It's another reason why there are so many horrible banners- people don't spend the time they should. You might say, "But they got worthied", and I reply, "So what?"

Your response to Sarah:

However, I'd like to point out that you are in the minority in that respect. Having excluded myself, out of 150 people, 91 people thought it was worthy.

To which I reply, "So what?"

Your position here switches sides depending on whether you're talking about *your* banners or banners made by people who "are not you."
I apologize. You caught me in a moment of vengeance. I felt like I had been verbally assaulted twice, and I wanted some retribution. It was a shameful way to act, and I'm sorry. At the time of typing that, and right now, the number of votes my banner recieved does not influence how much I like my own banner.

Also, by doing this in the forums, I can make the advice I recieve available to anyone who wants to improve.

This would be true but for the fact the banners you keep pushing were made by only you - the criticism of your specific banners isn't general enough to apply to outsiders reading this thread.
I do not believe this to be the case. I have only asked for advice on ONE of my banners, and the revisions of it. Also, the one time that someone else posted banners asking for suggestions, I promptly responded, giving advice for all three. As far as advice I've recieved being too specific to apply to anyone else, I disagree. No one has given me really specific advice. I think my original banner had follies that a lot of others can relate to, such as text blurring with the background, and the excessive use of embossing.
I can see how my motives might be construed as shameless self promotion- for which I apologize. I can see it was a mistake to put my own work up.
Arigatomina wrote:You invite discussion under the pretense that you want to mold your banners to fit what people want. But you spend the entire time arguing that people should accept what you do and vote it worthy because for you to change it would be to conform your 'art' to fit them.
I have never said that someone should vote my banners worthy.
Arigatomina wrote:You keep saying it doesn't matter what other people think. How can you make a thread asking their opinions with a straight face when your response is "so what? It appears you think the opinions of others are more important than your own."
You generalize my statement. I said as long as you like it, that's all that matters. If you love what you've made, you shouldn't let others criticism make you like it less, right? When I submitted my banner, I liked it, but I knew there was room for improvement. So I was very open to suggestions. Now, however, I adore my final product, and have no desire to change it. I have not asked for suggestions since.
Arigatomina wrote:I don't see why you made this thread. Either you're compromising yourself (suddenly you *do* think opinions are more important than your own), or you're trying to bring attention to your banner in hopes of more votes the next time you submit it. If it's the latter, you lost one more vote.
I made this thread to help myself, and others, learn how to make banners that other people will like. I have since realized that motive was wrong. I think Sepuki stated it perfectly:
Sepuki wrote:When you start designing to get Worthied, you start losing the integrity of the piece. Focus on making a banner that you like, something you can be proud of.
Making banners that I like is what has become most important. However, that doesn't mean that the advice of others is no longer of use. The advice of others helped me turn a banner I liked into a banner I love. While the motive behind this thread's creation may have been impure, I think what has resulted from it is still good. I think people can learn from other people's "Not to do" list. It was never my intention to publicize my banner to help it get more votes. You'll notice that I didn't even post my banner until several posts after the thread was created.

I would like to apologize for any ill feelings I have stirred up, and also ask that any questions or statements regarding my character (or supposed lack thereof), or my banners be directed to me, via private messages. As I have said, this thread is about banners, and not about me. Thankyou. And I hope to see many more banner suggestions to come

Enough said. ^_^; I preferred the original, but if you like the new version better, that's what matters.

I got the PM first, but as vengeance that isn't so bad. I could give evil-flaming-vengeance lessons around here. ;)

So yes, to clarify what I said: while I vote on banners and have opinions about what makes a banner good, I am not interested in discussing to death one particular banner. I never said I didn't like it. Moreover, my bringing it up in the first place was a not-direct-enough way of saying that it's not an issue of public interest, rather a discussion about one person - which doesn't seem to be what the forums are for, in my opinion. That's up for debate, of course, and you clarified afterward that you thought it would be interesting to others. Which it is, when people got on the topic of banners in general. But the constant harping on your one banner seemed off topic, to me.

Sometimes when something means a lot to you or you put a lot of work into it, people aren't going to like it. You just have to accept that and let it go. They aren't you, and their opinions are different from yours. It doesn't mean that you're wrong for valuing your work the way you do. Just let it go. Okay? Maybe this banner didn't get in. Maybe people are going to rate a video of yours harshly. Maybe they'll completely ignore it (not possible with banners, but in general). And maybe you'll never get an explanation for this. It happens. That's life. Chasing down reasons for why people think differently from you is only going to burn your own time and energy in the end. Because ultimately, that is the reason. People aren't you, and they think differently from you. There's nothing wrong with that on any side. It just is.

Just my unasked-for advice, take it or not as you like. It kind of makes me sad that this seems to be a source of such mental torment. Sometimes you do put a lot of effort into something, and others don't see it. That's the way of the world. Try again. Maybe you'll make it next time.

FWIW, if I were going to vote that banner down - and I probably would - it would be for promoting stereotypes about anime fans/AMV editors and for lack of originality. There are a hundred "make AMVs u get girlz!" banners out there already. This is just a classier way of saying that. Even though it's better made than most of those, it's still the same sentiment to me.

Did you read the rejection reason?

I'm familiar with lostfrog, but you can't change the logo font if it still appears to be part of the logo.

 My God. I find it incredibly sad when someone doesn't understand the basic principles involved with sarcasm. Go home and buy yourself a sense of humor, and learn to laugh at the morbid stuff, please.
Probably too busy to be here right now.

I've seen at least seven worthy banners that don't comply with this rule. :|

How recently? The rule wasn't written (ie: explained well) or enforced in the past as it is now.

They still show up once in a while, if that's what you mean. I don't know if they were approved recently or not.

Some examples:

They're not that big of a deal.
