Saiyuki: Good or Bad?

Post by Fungie½ » Mon Nov 17, 2003 8:16 pm

I've heard mixed things of the anime "Saiyuki". Some told me it's great bishounen stuff while others say the plot totally blows. Any thoughts?

I don't know. I like what I've seen of it so far, but it seems to get angstier with each episode. :? I get the impression I'm going to hate the ending (without even knowing how it ends). I still like watching what I have of it, though - the guys are hilarious. ^_^;

It's very very bishie, imo. Plot wise...meh...it's pretty shallow. Many of the parts are rather comical though. There's also a small hint of Shonen-ai, but meh..I ignored it ^^

The animation is nothing to brag about. There are a lot of still shots with sound effects. While the original character designs are great, there are a lot of parts in the animation where the characters aren't proportioned right.

First five episodes are nothing spectacular, but a lot of character development goes on within the next seventeen episodes.

Personally, I don't think this Saiyuki series should have been a 50 episode series (I can't say anything about Reload and Gunlock since I haven't seen them). The Homura arc felt stretched, in my opinion but Saiyuki is worth watching for the humor and the characters.
