AMV Question

Post by Gameinformer313 » Sat Aug 27, 2005 8:46 pm

Well, before u guys go all out telling me too read the guides, i did read them and maybe i didn't understand and i didn't know where too ask this at so i posted it here. There was a question i couldn't find an anwser too. When your making an AMV, is it important too always move forward with the anime ur using? i mean for example, is it ok to start a video off with a clip from ep 39 and then the next a clip from ep 7 and ect, or is that just being random and the only good way too go backwards is strictly for non-colored image flashbacks?

Of course not.

Actually most AMV's mix up the footage chronologically, otherwise it would get rather predictable especially for short animes.

As many other people will probably tell you in this thread you should do what you want to as long as you have some sort of theme or idea you want to develop. Be creative and see what works and what doesn't. There are no rules when it comes to this sort of thing.

Good luck.

Really it depends on what you music video to be like.
Is it retelling the story?
Is it meant to just get one point across?

Things like that determine what order you go in.

Oh i see, thankz for the advice you two. I also have one more question. Im new too the whole video making scene and i would normally listen to hip-hop and r&b. But it seems that rock songs go entirely better with AMVs so ive decided too use them. But recently i notice some rock songs are kinda hard to understand. When i say this, i mean they sound like there saying one thing but there saying something diffrent.

Example: " I"ll be your secret, Faith in Life " ends up sounding like " I"ll be your secret, Freind you like. "

Is their a way around some of those misunderstandings i mean should i post lyrics too the video as well or something?? i just don't want parts too seem out of place do too a misunderstanding of the song.

I think learning to play with lyrics and twist them elegantly (and as far away without arousing suspicion as possible) is a trick that everyone who wants to be successful with them needs to learn ON THEIR OWN.

I can't say I have yet.

I think you should just experiment and find your own way in AMV's. The guides are there to help you technically. The guides can't tell you what you want to see in your own AMV's creatively. You won't be having any fun if all you do is make AMV's that everyone besides yourself really wants to see.

So keep those guides handy for when you're stuck, fire up the editing program, and go edit. Word?

Ok first thing with that. never ever try to conform what others want videos to be. Make it how you want it. Make it feel like you feel about it. Who cares if you misunderstood the song in your own way, you got across in the way you wanted. But honestly I think ti would be cool if you did it to a R&B song. I ahve yet to see one of those and it would be interesting to see one. If you make one I'll guarantee a fair opinion. So please do a R&B one to change the mindset of many AMV makers.

I think s/he means lyrics that don't sound like what's written in the liner notes, not alternative interpretations of intelligible lyrics. For instance, one video I was thinking of making to Savage Garden's 'Break Me Shake Me' was scuppered when I found out that the lyrics went 'you will be alone' and not 'you won't be alone'.

If it's one or two lines that must be understood in order for the video to make sense, then I would put them in the video info. If the whole song is hard to understand, then I'd either post the lyrics (if there aren't many lines) or tell people to look it up themselves.

Of course you should always go forward. If you go backwards (except for non-colored flashbacks) then AMV will suck, your cat will get cancer, your parents will ground you, your girlfriend will leave you, you'll get constipated, the police will interrogate you for being a dirty AMV terrorist, school will expel you, little children will recoil in horror when you walk by, and the entire org community will hunt you down and lynch you.

Or, perhaps, I'm lying and you should do what you want and see if you like the result.

Usually I ignore them. I figure if the song lyrics aren't understandable then lyric syncing probably isn't the way to go with that song.

Hip-Hop and R&B can go great with an AMV, as long as the song you use relates to the anime you use.
