More Bandwidth and Revenue Needed

I've donated what I feel is a fair ammount over the last 3 years. The fact that, despite these donations, I'm still pestered for more money and forced to rank videos annoys me. It's a pain in the ass to donate a little every month, so I gave a lot at once. I donated $50 back in April, but right now I get the same nag screens as people who have given nothing ever.
I don't know if it would attract more donations, but fixing this system would probably keep me from STOPPING my annual contribution.
I didn't read all 14 pages of replies in this thread, but from what I did read, it seems nearly everybody who is against bandwidth caps is not a contributer. Certainly people who are getting a great service for nothing do not want to have to start paying for it. Cap leechers at 40K/s. That's a VERY respectable speed to be able to download thousands of AMVs for free. I would have paid $10 a month for 40K/s 5 years ago, before local hosting.
For those that think it's "unfair" to cap people unwilling to help out, keep this in mind: If more money is not found for a faster connection soon, EVERYBODY will be downloading at slower speeds. I think it's a lot less fair to punish those who have donated.

i really don't have the time to read through this whole thread so if this has already been said then flame me all you want. I haven't donated yet, but also never new how few donations are received or that you get benifits and intend to make a generouse donation.
I have read in this thread about donation perks but don't really know all to well what they are. I actually didn't know you got any other than those pledge pages dissapearing.
I think that alot more ppl would be interested in donating if you gave them the royal treatment for a month or for their X amount of downloads and then cut it off. Tell them that $XX.xx a year will secure their perks and I'm sure that it would increase donation rates.
They would have had a taste of the good life and thirst for more.
As for the advertisment banner idea. I think it would work best if video editing programs of the sort like premeire or magix were advertised. This way its not just another anoying advertisement, its a way for newbies to become aquanted with the programes they'll likely want to use for making videos.

Batman..
As I understand it, the whole idea is that the site is free. Anything other than reminders that donations are cool and help the site goes against what seems to be the prevailing philosophy. Anything that looks like paying to get something would be most likely shot down, and fried for lunch.
Look at this thread for example: pages upon pages of ideas and whatnot, essentially boiling down to placing a few handpicked ads.
I agree with the earlier poster, it looks like this thread should be taken off the main page and trimmed. There are enough ideas in here to make anyone happy.
Everyone else who hasn't read it yet... Read the donation page! It has all the info you need to send as little as 1.00, in the mail, or online.

as soon as i get my credit card, i plan on donating, not because i want better service or hope to improve the site, but because i appreciate how hard people work to put something together like this...
i am a web developer, and SHIT it takes a lot of work...just making this site alone and mainting it....bandwidth and other stuff isn't even included~!
i am grateful that this site even EXISTS, thats why i think we should all donate...

we'll, for one.... I think there need to be user group settings. If you donate, you can become a super user, in which your bandwidth is not capped, or you get some really cool special features or something. right now, the benefits for donators vs non arent really all that special.
You need to make the non donators feel like they will be missing out if they dont donate. I think an ok example, sadly, is on narutofan.com

I think making the users of the site feel like part of community goes a long ways. People just see a standard form begging them to donate, they think "yea yea, you just want my money" etc. However when people see something like the announcement on the members main page, and the forum thread, then they can tell that its a genuine request, they see other people donating, they see how the site is truely funded by the community, and so on, and this makes them feel like maybe they owe something back to the site as well. I think its this "getting to know the site on a personal level" that really persuades people to donate. Perhaps the donation request forms could be modified to reflect this type of style and make it feel more inviting towards the users. Also maybe cut down significantly on the ammount of text that is displayed on the donation request page when people try to download vids... because when people see huge ammount of text, and its not something that they are particularly interested in, then chances are they aren't going to read any of it.
