Music Genre Search
Yeah, I still would like to see it done.
I noticed my DLing dropped from over 20 vids per week to barely 5 Vids a month, and that just because the current search offers only insufficient criterias.
Just a question: Aside the (potential) problems, is there a general demand or acceptance for a Search criteria "Music Genre"?
p.s. i wouldn't mind if a nice mod could poll this

Well, i asked "aside the problems"... If there is a demand, we can pinpoint the problems, find solutions and double check them with the given resources available to see if we can work something out... makes not much sense to talk abou tthe problems first if there isn't even demand.

The problem is a subjective one. Music genre's arent exact as most people have different idea's of what certian genre's actualy are. So the system would allways be somewhat flawed. Theirs also the problem og feting the 80000 or so vids allready on this site updated. That aint gona happen easily, if at all.
The easiest way this would work is to have basic genre's such as rock/metal, pop/j-pop, trance/techno/dance, classical, and so on. However I'm personaly against such an idea as as it could be turning this site into more of a music search engine than it allready is. Their are other qualities which people should be searching for when looking for an amv. Music is allready the most comon base which people use when looking for amv's, such a feature will only make it more dominant, further pushing back editors who use lesser known music.

Hey,
I hope that made sense.
Phade.
Actually, we would be adding information to the base song information rather than the video entries themselves. There are only 33,500 song entries (with lots of duplicates/junk entries). Tackling that so there is only one entry per song will be the real beginning of fixing the music side of the database. From there, we can add the genre descriptor(s) to the individual songs.bum wrote:The problem is a subjective one. This would be the more elegant way to handle the data, however adding a global Criteria which can be assignet independant from the Song title would certainly be far simpler... and not only cause we could add Genres before razing all the mispellings.
I didn't plan this to turn to the problem discussion that fast, which is why i am desperately lacking time right now, but i'll be right at it again in a few hours.
