Broly

Post by Hell-Bringer » Wed Jan 11, 2006 5:26 pm

Though it is no longer my favorite, DBZ holds a special place in my heart, got me into anime and i still watch the movies when i can. and my all time Favorite anime character is Broly, not that shitty 3rd broly movie, but more the 1st one, the 2nd was good but all Broly really said the whole time was Kakorot lmao. Anyways yeah just had to throw in my Broly fandom there :wink: . And i agree that GT sucked dragonballs (insert corny laughter) and personally i'd have liked to have seen SS3 Goku(my favorite SS form) end the battle with buu. :twisted:

i think that vegeta's sacrifice should have ended the buu saga. with buu surviving it, it did more to tarnish vegeta's selfless and noble deed than to enchance buu's reputation as invincible. it would have been nice if just ONCE vegeta could have saved the day and destroyed the super villan without and hint of goku's help. a fight purely from vegeta.

well that may be true, but from my point of view, the buu saga is the best part of all the DBZ series, beside that is the one that has more episodes and more intensity in the fights, specialy in the loooooooooooooooooong final fight with buu, where I think the most random part was where Mr. Satan saves Vegeta is life :? (poor vegeta is pride).

DBZ is one of my favourite animes, I have watched it like 50 times and I still don`t get bored :shock: (strange, isn`t it?). But I agree that dragonball GT sucks, thats all, I saw it one time and I get dissapointed :(

Okay, I'll admit I used to really be into dbz, and it had its moments.

But I truely have moved on now...looking at the anime I've seen after my dbz phase, I realised how other anime had so much more to offer, and the huge flaws that can be found in dbz...but like i said it had its moments.

To be honest, I dont think dbz shouldn't have gone past the Cell Saga. The saga really had me hooked, fleshing out the whole super sayain aspect.

Memorable moments:

SSJ Trunks vs. Frieza/King Cold/SSJ Goku
SSJ Vegeta and SSJ Trunks getting whooped by Android 18 & 17 :shock:
Androide 18 kissing krillin!! :lol:
Piccolo Super Namek! 8-) (The strongest he'll ever be)
Ascended SSJ Vegeta getting whopped by Perfect Cell :twisted:
Ascended SSJ Trunks vs. Perfect Cell

Goku vs. Perfect Cell :wink: (with the build up, the length, the attacks used..one of the better battles u'll see in the entire dbz series)

GOHAN SSJ 2! Gohan one-handed Kamehameha!!! :shock: :D
I mean c'mon one handed people! 8-)

I aslo like how ALL the dbz warriors played a part in the end and not resorted to be useless spectators.

With the sacrifice of Goku (and what was planned to be a continual death).. :cry:
Gohan stepping up to takeover his father's role as hero...
Veggeta's acknowledgements of his son Trunks...
And Trunks return to save the future...

It would have been an extremely fitting closure to the series :wink: :roll:

Is that what the "Z" was for...I always thought it was because the formation of the Z warriors...oh well.

I doubt that's the reason it's called Dragon Ball Z.

Also, the only time this show was good, was when it was DragonBall. Dragonball was cute and funny. All of them were short and round. But then, Akira Toriyama, the man with probably the worst art style ever, decided he wanted to keep it going. So he made DBZ. He was much to lazy to create new characters, so he used the same ones from his previous show. Causing the whole story to MAKE NO SENSE. There weren't aliens in Dragon Ball. It wa a cute little fantasy, filled with chubby boys with tails and dinosaurs. Then he makes it a Sci-Fi and it turns retarded.

DBZ is a bunch of grunting because they can't put in the excessive swearing. There is a green child molestor and Vegeta. Vegeta...I can't even tell you how much he makes me want to kill the creator.

Funimation doesn't have such bad voices though. Justin Cook, the line director for Yu Yu Hakusho and DBZ, also voices of Dende and Yusuke, is the coolest. Sean Teag, who I don't even remember him being in DBZ, works with Funimation, and he rocks. I also like Christopher Sabat, no matter how horribly retarded his voices for his characters sound.

What I'm saying is, I'm not blaming the dubbers for the horribleness of DBZ. This time, it's the creators fault. I shun Akira Toriyama. Shun him.

wow, i didnt think DBZ was that terrible. but your right its 1 episode to name the enemy, 2 episodes to power up, and 3 episodes to throw the final attack. Way too drawn out but i cant bear too much of a grudge against it. Still fun too watch when your young.

Okay, as a DBZ "purist" let's set the record straight.

If you are ONLY watching the English dub, you aren't watching DragonBall Z. That's the bottomline, sorry, you AREN'T watching DBZ. So please leave your opinions at the door, it's annoying as hell to those of us who do bother to see the real anime. The real anime is in the original Japanese, and ONLY in the original Japanese.

It's completely different in Japanese. Sometimes, whole story lines and dialogue are completey different. The music is completely different. Song numbers were cut out (like the song when Gohan goes SSJ2). Whole or sometimes half episodes are cut out (like Furiza torturing Kurinin on his horns while blood is flying everywhere). That's why there are more episodes in the Japanese, than the English. If you are judging DBZ based on what you have watched on Cartoon Network, you might as well judge War and Peace based on Reader's Digest. It's just that simple.

The reason it was called Dragonball Z in the anime is just to differ from the Dragonball series. It was a Toei decision to break the Toriyama manga into two series. It was ONLY called Dragonball in the Manga (pronouced MAYN - GA). That was a decision of Toei (Bird), and doesn't have a lot to do with Akira Toriyama.

You are juding the animators at Toei not Akira Toriyama. Some of the animation is (agreed) just lousy, some is not. Akira Toriyama had NOTHING to do with those decisions, he only drew the manga. In fact, when the character Vegeta was introduced, (in the filler episode the English dub called, "Trouble on Arlia") the colors that Toei animaters gave him were so off, Toriyama contacted them to set them straight. The boots are white. Saiya-jin all have black hair. (and so forth).

As for the later Dragonball Series. Akira Toriyama's original intention was to end the entire Dragonball series on Namek with Vegeta dying, Goku dying in his fight to kill Furiza, and Gohan returning to Earth in a bittersweet ending, as the last Saiya-jin.

Toei BEGGED him not to. He finally agreed, and took time to think of a new plot line, which started the Trunks Saga, Artificial Human Saga, and finally the Cell Saga. The time he took thinking up this Saga, also explains the Garlic Jr. Saga. Toei had to fill up the time between the Namek/Furiza Saga, and the launch of the Trunks Saga.

Some people hate the later DBZ as compared to the earlier DBZ. Agreed by the Majin Buu Saga, the SSJ 2s, 3s, and 4s (Oh, yeah that was GT :roll: ), got to the point of being silly. (I, myself, love the Trunks/Android/Cell Saga)

BUT IT'S DRAGONBALL PEOPLE! :P It was written/drawn by Akirya Toriyama who's best known for gag comics like Dr. Slump. WHAT DID YOU EXPECT? You want heavy groundbreaking drama, go rent Akira.
THIS IS DRAGONBALL. It's supposed to be humorous and silly sometimes. Look at the names of the characters for pity sake (I mean the REAL names of the characters and not the English dub, and their real translations)

Chi Chi = breasts (a baby name for breasts or breast milk)
Kurinin = chestnut
Bejita = play on Vegetable
Kakarotto = carrot

If you can't appreciate that, you are watching the wrong anime. Take your grouchiness somewhere else and leave us people who can appreciate it, to do so without your whining.

Especially, blaming Toriyama who had nothing to do with the anime, asside from letting Toei talk him into continuing the manga. It would be like blaming Tolkein for Peter Jackson so botching up "The Two Towers." All Tolkein did was sell the rights to his book. That's all Toriyama did, was sell the rights. It's a financial decision. How do you think most books get made into movies?

Kuso is basically "insert your really bad word here."

Kuso is in fact so bad, that when voluntering some of my Japanese anime for my daughter's Japanese class (the teacher was looking for some parents to donate to the class), all of my anime was ruled out because of "kuso." Even my treasured kaiju (Godzilla movies) have "kusos" in it.

Btw, kuso can also be the F word. The Japanese Akira (not the English dub) has Kuso translated as either the Sh word or the F word.

It's also interesting to note that asside from the Kusos a good deal of the "cuss words" in the Japanese Dragonball Z are in English. They aren't easy to catch sometimes, because the Japanese voice actors mangle the pronuciations so badly sometimes. English is definitely not their second, third or fourth language. :wink:

I had to listen to it three times before I could clearly make out Piccoro calling Bejita an a-hole ("Bejita, you a-hole!) when he watches the fight between Bejita and Furiza.

When Bejita throws a final flash at Cell (Cura), Cell yells, "Holy ----" when he sees it coming.

The japanese vocabulary in dbz isn't complex enough to translate to those words :P

Although "kuso" still equals feces, poop, or in other words, "shit", it can still be interpreted as "damn" in that expression.
