good, now your awake.

Pwolf
I wish to emulate Peter Jackson and James Cameron, is that too much to ask? Of course, I'll need to have more than just one film/video to truly pull this off.

Pwolf: Gee, Willen, what are we going to do tonight?
Willen: The same thing we do every year, Pwolf. Try to take over the AMV world!
Having trouble playing back videos? I recommend: Image

I think that co-ordinating a MEP will get better results.

Before asking, THINK!!! Have you read The Guides, consulted The Wiki and watched The Corn?

They voted for Phenominon and NArutos technique beat ;p
since half of em are Sierra fanboys like me, and the other half were oogling at the effects that look amazing (but are actually quite easy to make if you know what your doing, which most don't) in NTB ;p

I'm glad Phenomenon actually did win something though, since it got totally shafted at Otakon >.>

I am both ecstatic and disgusted with the winners. Just like last year, videos that were deserving of the title were shafted in the very beginning (remember last year and the drama category with "Priceless"?...yea...) I've finally understood why most of the AMV editors around me don't even particpate.

First, I love Nostromo's work, but "Always Hardcore" just wasn't the type of video that makes me think 'dance'. JCD's "Eurofire", however, had all the elements that come to mind when I think of dance: many bright colors, lots of action, and effects that help out the video.

Second, there's a major difference between a music video and a skit video. I thought GFBeach's "Friendship Test" was a funny little video, but it was only lipsync. Several of the other finalists in the 'best first video' category were more deserving in my opinion because they actually created an AMV: an anime music video. After all, that's what this website is all about.

Third, I know it couldn't be helped, but Decoy's "Naruto's Technique Beat" should have been beaten out by Metro's "True Fiction". Since Metro forgot to check his video as eligible to be in the contest, however, it couldn't even be nominated. I do agree that "Naruto's Technique Beat" is an amazing accomplishment in visual effects, but the entire video is done in the same style. The variety of effects in "True Fiction" is what stood out to me. Most of the effects he used I've never seen done in any other AMV.

Fourth, I can't believe Vlad's "A View to a Kill" didn't win in several categories, including 'best parody', 'most artistic', and 'most original'. I'm not saying it had to win in all of those, though. But personally, I have never ever seen another AMV that's styled like a 007 film intro. Also, I immediately undertsood what Vlad's video was parodying, but I don't know what Suberunker's "Still Preoccupied with 1985" was parodying. Was it parodying the original music video for that song? Was it parodying the anime characters with the musical artists listed in the song?

These are just a few of my thoughts. I'm not saying that I don't like the winners. Quite the opposite: I love the winning videos and I think they are amazing pieces of art. I'm just having a hard time understanding some people's thoughts when they nominate a video.

People vote for the videos they like reguardless of catagory. My video isn't really a horror video but people liked it and voted for it, just like 1985 isn't a parody nor a character profile, but people still voted for it.

The most important part of the VCAs is the nomination process. I always thought it was a bit lame when creators select EVERY catagory the video could possible fit into instead of just the main one. 1985 isn't a Comedy/Parody/Character Profile/Fun, its just a Comedy.

The results were very surprising to me. I could have sworn Vlad and Istiv would have won something but neither did. Vlad's I can understand because its an old anime but istiv's Race is scientifically designed to pander to every con audience from the 500 anime characters to the funny gag at the end. I'm totaly baffled that 1985 even got nominated for anything, let alone winning everything. An awful song with a series of painfully forced jokes with ho hum editing.

Its also kind of a shame that out of the tons of awesome original videos this year, we gave the award to a video that parodies wizard of oz with final fantasy jokes.

All in all though I think these VCAs were much better than the year before. The public has spoken.

I don't believe that. The dudes that are popular are popular cause they made good AMV's.....unless they talked crap all over the chatroom or was the head of a huge funny hellish multieditor project.... :?
