Which program...

Post by absoluteanarchy » Sat Apr 01, 2006 9:11 am

I was wondering which program has the easiest way to 'cut out' the bottom of clips. I want to make a video, but it has subtitles and would like to clip off the bottom of the screen. I'm using Windows Movie Maker 2.0, and I dont see any way to do it in there. I'd much rather use a free program, but if you can recommend something else, that'd be fine too.

VirtualDub/Mod can do this and it's free.

First of all I must say that you shouldnt use fansubs. Don't be cheap buy the DVD's. If you still want to go on with fansubs, VirtualDubMod is a free program that, but know that there are many problem working and editing with lossy codecs.

I'm not usually one for using fansubs. I have no problem buying the DVD's and supporting them as long as I know what I'm getting. Unfortunately for series that have not been broguth over, such as Bleach, I have no choice in the matter.

VirtualDubMod I've already tried. Some of the clips i need to clip are (weird as it may be) ASF, which VDM does not support (I tried pulling older versions but no luck). Do you know of any that do support modding of ASF files?

Heh, No, Bleach isn't in .ASF. The clips I'm using from Bleach are (were) in MKV format. I should have been a little more specific. Some real-life clips that I was going to integrade into the video were ASF (They were ones I plucked from google video, but refused to use google video player for).

But That's irrelevent now though because I was able to successfully convert them to avi.

Anyways, I've got 'em into VirtualDubMod, now how do I clip the bottom part? Once I get that, I'll be in set shape.

From the VDM Help files ( press F1 then Video filters)
Cropping
Cropping can be applied at the beginning of any filter by selecting the entry and selecting the Cropping... button. Once cropping borders are set, the cropped frame is reflected in the input frame size for that filter entry.
Note The post-crop width and height should never be zero or negative.
Now for how to apply cropping. Select Video > filters. Lets assume you want a resize (for after the cropping) select that from the list, set the settings, and apply. Now you can select to crop the filter (and the video) however you want.

Don't bother trying to legitimize things, because you'll just dig yourself in deeper. You can always buy Region 2 DVDs from Japan. They're expensive as hell, but their existance does mean that you have another option.

Yeh, watch as I go and blow hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to buy something I can legally download and burn to DVD. Maybe I can't legitimize the statement, but I can decipher between the pros and cons. I fail to see why you even posted anything if you were just gonna be a smartass. I guess your the kind of person who gets enjoyment from hiding behind your screen and bashing everyone on forums to get a sense of accomplishment in your pathetic life. You know you download subs too, or I guess you ripped those Naruto AMV's ya made yourself? Ignorance is bliss.

Back on topic, thanks CHAMELEON_D_H for helping me out, everything worked perfect.
