Do you lagh when something funny happens in a show? Do you get excited when a big fight scene or action sequence breaks out? Do you Think about the meaning of shows? Do you fantasize about anime characters?Cornwiggle wrote:I think it's a sane thing.Psygnius wrote:I meant not crying.Psygnius wrote: or maybe it's a guy thing.... dunno.
Any of these are the same as crying over a show. If you've done any one of them, by your definition, you're not sane.

I have to second Malificus here. Many shows try to elicit an emotional response from the viewer, and if it's a very sad show, it's not a big deal if you cry a little. If it's funny, you laugh; if there's action, you cheer.
I haven't done it often with any movie or show, animated or not, but there have been a few times where I've been so moved or saddened by a certain event that I've shed a tear or two, I admit. I am not a particularly girly girl either, so crying over every character death, etc, is not a normal occurrence for me.
However, I've never gotten obsessed or depressed about any of those circumstances, because, as someone mentioned before, it is fiction and therefore doesn't really affect the rest of my life. If I got to the point where I just couldn't stop thinking about "OMG _____ dies and it's so sad!" every moment and it affected my everyday routine, then I'd know I had a problem.

laughter and crying are two different spectrums of emotions. Crying takes an immense amount of emotion to do, while pulling out a 2-second laugh only requires a 1-minute scene.
To get someone to cry requires a lot of character development that cannot be acheived in a 1-minute scene.
You can't classify a chuckle on the same level as sorrow. A laugh is more of a response than an emotion.
Yes, people feel emotions when watching a show, Elfen Lied or Saikano are both shows that make me feel a bit sadder each time I watch them, but am I going to cry over a fictional story? No.
