Are you the one that's putting together all of the AMV's for the contest, Kurai? If so, then I have a question.
What's the general rule on how cut-up AMVs that someone submits need to be? I mean, I'd like to put a title page and whatnot on mine, but I'm not sure on what the allowed lengths are, etc, especially since there is no music playing at that point.

Yep, that'd be me.Xarathion wrote:Are you the one that's putting together all of the AMV's for the contest, Kurai? If so, then I have a question.
I'm going to add a generic title for every video entry to ensure that the audience knows what they're looking at before it comes on both to avoid spoilering people who really don't want to see the end of Advent Children (as I'm certainly getting plenty of them...) and to make sure anyone interested in an anime after watching a video knows what they just saw so they can go forth and purchase the DVDs (and thus keep us in good graces with the licensors). Yay run on sentence!Xarathion wrote:What's the general rule on how cut-up AMVs that someone submits need to be? That aside, you should feel free to include your own title if you want. I do want you to know that it'll be redundant after I tell people which one is yours, but I leave that up to you. I do warn against making it linger too long, though, because I get bored if I see the same text up for more than five seconds. The general rule is to read aloud the text information and cut it there. People read faster than they speak, but speaking better estimates how long it takes to process the information, so never let it take longer than it would take to say it. 30 second intros tend to make people stab you, too.
In other words, I'm not putting a solid restriction on how long your personal bumper can be so long as you understand you do more harm to yourself than good by letting one linger for too long.
If that was too vague and jumblified, please let me know and I'll try to clarify more.

I will be there, and entering a video in the contest, although it's not the video I -WANT- to enter, because my computer is being a pain.
I entered a video last year too...that Slayers video that was played with the winners. ^^; I can assure you I've improved my editing ability A LOT since then.
And it's good to know that there will be titles before the videos! It was hard for some of my friends to tell where one ended and another began, and a lot of the times the beginning of one video was drowned out from the clapping and cheering at the end of another. ^_^

Yeah, last year was my first year running the contest and I'd never really realized how important bumpers were. I didn't want to run them because I thought they'd ruin the surprise value of some of the comedy videos, but in the end it did more harm than good.
So yeah, totally bumpers this year.
And you people better come to the AMV Panel on Sunday too!

Currently scheduled for noon to 1 PM, which preceeds the AMV reshowing of Sunday (I'm showing the full contest once each day of the convention, with winners announced Saturday night as usual). The only thing the AMV panel really conflicts with is the first hour of the art auction.MCHeadcase wrote:What time is the pannel taking place?Kurai Seraphim wrote:And you people better come to the AMV Panel on Sunday too!
If the timeslot changes I'll post it here.
