Why do we hate this site agian?
This is just my take, I think it's mainly due to ethical reasons and the fact that AMVs are their real concern or value, so things we value like video quality and sync they don't care about. Of course, this is purely my opinion and based on my own experiences with them. In order to have several people I know be able to see my work I did upload two things there, but was so dissapointed with their quality and the fact that it threw off so many of the syncs I'd worked hours on that I haven't done anything since.

I think YouTube is designed with a different purpose than our site, but when so many amateur makers disgregard us and turn to them it's a bit of a slap in the face, since we've worked hard to build this site over the years but then a sort of young upstart shows up and becomes a threat, while offering lower quality and a looser moral code than us, and just in general less professionalism (based on the experiences I've had again, after this site I was somewhat dissapointed by the feedback I was getting and having my videos shamelessly stolen with no consequence was annoying, to put it lightly, hence I've stopped using it and am considering terminating my account)

I think YouTube has the right to have some of their stuff up, but when they start going onto our turf there's bound to be bad blood between the two sites. But that's just my interpretation of it.

Whoops. I meant "the fact that AMVs aren't their real concern or value." What I had their changes the entire meaning.

Never. Hosatchel bases their entire business model on people like us who work for free. What we do is ethical. What they do isn't.

Interestingly enough, one of our group's AMVs that was uploaded without our permission to YOUTUBE was removed in recent days, citing removal pressure by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation themselves, because the video used footage without their permission.

It was 1 of 2 uploads ( that I am currently aware of ) of our Inu Yasha Movie 3 amv, "Heirloom". Still, the second upload by another user still remains posted. While we don't have an account at YOUTUBE and never give out permission to repost our videos, they still get reposted. What worries me is that somehow, someway, one of the actual Japanese production companies got the link to this AMV repost at YOUTUBE and told the adminastrators to remove it. What worries me is that this reposting of any of the AMV communities' videos at places like YOUTUBE may eventually draw fire from the companies like this, and cause trouble in the long run for a-m-v.org and AMV editors in general. I don't know if Yomiuri TV is already in the know of the bajillion Inu Yasha AMVs here at The ORG and are just kind of turning a blind eye to it since a-m-v.org promotes a homage and appreciation approach to the genre, and are just going after YOUTUBE because of it's general notoriety. The video has our email address and website intact in the credits, so I assume that if Yomiuri TV really wanted a complete 'cease and desist', they would have formally contacted us about using and distributing footage without their permission. But it seems as though their main concern was just getting YOUTUBE to yank the video.

LMAO! They base their entire business model on what people like us do for free? WTF are you talking about man. They simply run a site where people can upload videos. Some rogue user takes one of your AMVs and puts it on youtube, how is that youtube's fault? It is clearly against their terms of service. If you contact them about it, they take it down. How on earth are they doing anything to harm you? And business model? Practically every single article written about youtube talks about their LACK of a business model... no one knows how the hell they expect to make any money.

While I agree with you that we are far more ethical than they are, unethical != illegal. And it's fine to hold the moral high ground and turn up our nose at hosatchel, but I'm telling you, if they lose, it'll be like rewriting the DMCA from the bench, and it'll only be a matter of time until we're next.

Let me put it another way: the enemy of my enemy is my enemy's enemy; nothing more and nothing less.

Besides, they're far more visible and thus far more likely to be hit. Additionally, they're commercial and we're not.

well I moved all my movies to youtube so people could view them easier, as the sites I was using were a pain to download from, so I hope I get to keep my account, but it is sad that people take other people's movies and claim it as their own, members of sims99 that make sims2 movies have the same issues :?
