Of course, there are songs that just don't interest me until someone I respect as an editor makes an AMV to it that just wows me.

Hihi. Just a quick post, I hope.
After watching Arigatomina's YYH vid featuring 'Uninvited', I was inspired you could say, to make my own video, using Inuyasha [Kikyo] as a source. I liked my result, though I can still remember Arigatomina's and I'm so glad she made it.
However, when making 'Bebop Blinded' [Knockin on Heavens Door + Blinded by the Light - Manfred Mann], it was the first time the song had been entered. I don't believe it lit a fire under much of anyone's arse to use the song again. Too bad.
Bottom line, I've done both and both times made me happy with the results. As long as you're not going to clone someone else's video, originality exists. I think what people are most concerned with now though, is perfection. Again, too bad.

I agree that it depends on the situation.. whether a video is original or not. I'm definitely guilty of taking a song I saw in another amv, but I've never cloned a video, as someone pointed out.
Not to sound pompous.. most of the time if I find a song I want to use in an amv, it wasn't very good to begin with, so I want to see the song used better. That's when the ideas start flowing for me, when I hear a song in an amv I like.
And yes, songs can be overused, but it's all about how good the video is. I try not to compare, yet I admit if I'm tired of a song, I'm not very interested in seeing a video that uses it anymore. Doesn't mean the video isn't good.. I just don't want hear the damn song again, for awhile, at least.
Besides, to some degree, everyone is guilty of basing their ideas off of others.. that's kind of the way humans work. We see something that inspires us, and work our own style into it.. it's a subconscious thing, but not unoriginal, as long as your inspiration doesn't take it to the extreme of blatantly stealing the entire amv.

Yep, that's the look on my face alright. Like TKO by Le Tigre or Low by Cracker (Plus many other songs)
