Fumoffu and School Rumble are the only two that made me lol (still have to watch Excel Saga).

I also liked GTO.

You want comedy that makes you hurt from laughter?

3 come to mind:

Girl's Bravo - fanservicey, but my wife loves it cause it's the FUNNIEST anime in existance... despite the boobs and b00ty

Elf Princess Rane - I want what this director is smoking...

Invincible Fighter Pretty Noodle Waitress Miki - aka Muteki Kanban Musume Miki. SOMEONE LICENSE THIS THING!!!

All 3 anime revolve around mild violence for humor [Miki's is brutal but the others not so much]. For the record, the english dubs for the first two mentioned series are funnier than their subs [translating a culture joke is never ever funny to people who are ignorant and don't care...]
"Strength lies in action. Let the weak react to me..." - Kamahl, Pit Fighter from Magic: the Gathering
"That is a mistake many of my enemies make. They think before they act. I act before I think!" - Vortigern from Merlin ('98)
"I AM REBORN!" - Dark Schneider Bastard!! OAV

If you want violence for humor try Dokuro it's off the scale.
Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for a night. Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

I agree with Fumoffu, funny off the meter scale.

Also try Kalidostar, and Golden Boy.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?
