Send error report. I sent error report, and it shut the program off. then i went to restart it, and again and again he same thing keeps happening. i am not sure what to do. i tfried searching the internet for some kind of tutorial to see if i am doing something wrong but apparently i am not. help!

okay well. i did use dvd decryper, but i was told to download divx cuz it can compress the vobs from dycryper and make them smaller, or sumthing so i can split them and use them in windows movie maker. like. make them into an avi or sumthing. they sed it works really well, and is easier

i'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it compresses in, oh, i don't know. lets say...divx? :/

video editing programs do not like divx and xvid.
to get your footage, follow the guides and you can't go wrong

Here is what you need to do:

1) Tell us what editing program you have (WMM; Premiere; Vegas).

This will help us help you determine your best course of action regarding what kind of footage you can and should use.

2) Since you are trying to rip from a DVD, then it appears you want to use DVD footage (VOB) files.

You need to rip the VOB (Video Object) files to your hard drive using DVDDecrypter and then...

DO NOT CONVERT/COMPRESS THEM INTO ANYTHING ELSE USING DIVX, or any other codec.

JUST LEAVE THEM ON YOUR HARD DRIVE and come back here.

This is why we need to know what kind of editing program you have because it will help us recommend what we feel is the best course of action given what you may want to do now that you (will) have the VOB files on your hard drive.

No, you haven't. And don't compress to DivX before ediing, EVER. DivX is lossy and has B-Frames. It crashes editing programs like a drunk teenager crashes cars, so you must avoid it. The same goes for XviD. These codecs are intended to make your final file smaller, not the source footage.

All right, so your next step should be to follow the list of steps here:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... getb1.html

But when you get to step 6 in that list, I recommend jumping here:
http://www.aquilinestudios.org/wmm2guide.html
which will give you some more WMM-specific advice for the rest of the process.

To sum up, you now have DVD (VOB) files on your hard drive and you need to figure out and do the following:

A) What kind of footage is it and how you want to deal with it using DGIndex and AviSynth?

-Interlaced
-Progressive (Film footage)

B) What aspect ratio is the footage in?

-PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio)
-DAR (Display Aspect Ratio)

Working out these elements before you edit the footage is useful if you want to add graphics to your video like titles and intro-outro screens.

........
But when you get to step 6 in that list, I recommend jumping here:

As stated, this is WMM specific instructions you should follow because WMM deals with and has certain limitations with regarding the final output which deal with some of the very issues above like aspect ratios.

It is not a hard process once you realize the process itself is very elementry. It is the small details which can be overwhelming and confuse you... But if you take everything one step at a time and feel free to ask questions -- There is no such thing as a stupid question when you are learning -- It won't be as daunting. You are not supposed to know every little thing if this is your first video, so just keep that in mind.
