As a Gabriel fan, I approve of this a lot. It had all the traits of Gabriel's own artsy-but-meaningful approach.

Sure the styles didn't come together... seamlessly, to say the least, but they all had their roles to play in the video. Great props on using such unusual sources, as a tribute this was also very much needed.

A definite keeper. Keep up the good work!

Quality issue here, The color of the picture and the resolution do not look so hot to me. I know that they are old animes, at least you could done more color correction.

The other issue is the use of geometric shapes. Square, oval and circle are not that "organic". Unless you can do EUphoria's New age style, becareful around those shapes because they cause a unnatural feeling around a soft and supposely sentimental video.

Thanks, this is helpful criticism. There were definitely quality problems with some of the sources and I was not entirely satisfied with the filtering I did. I've also gotten the message loud and clear about the GravenTangles. I guess feathering the mattes isn't enough ... I need to get to the point where the boundaries aren't even noticed.

I hadn't thought at all of color correction. I did lighten sources sometimes, Railroad in particular can be very dark and muddy. Ultimately, though, I'm hesitant to try to 'correct' old sources too much ... restore, yes.

Well I will pitch in since I had a similar issues regarding aspect ratios and incredibly old footage along with newer in that color correction rarely is optimal. Played with it with Urusai Yatsura and Macross. Things like lightening or hue adjustments can make every bit of grain in the show come out, particularly on darker titles.

I think people need to realize even with shiny vids coming out that well... some sources are never going to be that shiny. A lot of the old shows from 15+ years ago quite simply don't even have any good filmed master and rely on whatever decent copy of it esists on VHS or hopefully betamax tapes. You can't take out all the age out of the film. Even a more recent fil, Akira when remastered still had some minor issues after cleanup.

There is only so much that can be done with avisynth scripts.

Although to an extent I can agree with the polygons being a little too artificial for a sentimental video but it didn't hinder too much considering that it was used rather effectively.

Altough I'm not really into "artsy" amvs I enjoyed watching it.
Somehow your Kinos Journey worked better with me though.

I loved it. You nailed the feeling and overall atomsphere. I saw technical flaws, but I was too busy being swept away by the scene selection to care.

Great video. Really, a fantastic video.

But...

Those cats just freak me out.

Something about anthropromorphic cats always just puts me off and distracts me.

Then again, that's my problem.
