I'm not saying you should go out and watch this movie... I'm jsut saying that you shouldn't judge it until you've watched it. And I actually think it was designed as an action comedy, so being a comedy was its intent.

It's funny for the same reasons D-grade horror movies are funny though. It's not the intent to be funny that get's laughs, it's the "i can't believe this got through a real producer" factor. Like Snakes on a Plane - except not the "we're going to make this so over the top and predictibly bad that the mere concept will be a meme before it hits theaters and therefore make a lot of moeny" type of bad.

The word prejudge exists in our language sadly but truly.

I'm prejudiced against movies that about 10billion other people say sucks.
I'm not going to agree with the [if everyone says so, it's true] routine, but these are movies and movies aren't something I'd take with a grain of salt. If the majority say this movie sucks [some of whom are people whose viewpoints are similar to mine own], then I'll say the movie sucks as well...

I'd still watch it but as a fan of the game, it's like the Street Fighter movie. You going to tell me people HAVE to watch it before telling others it sux and should save their money? How many Street Fighter fans wanted to gut this movie's producers? I sure would...

D.O.A. could have had SOOO much more if they used the game material.

Here's an idea, why not remake the game's sequences into a movie? "Oh, people won't watch things they've played?"

Explain to me Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children then. Uses the source material to the fullest, worked perfectly. No other game turned live-action movie used source material so well [maybe the first Mortal Kombat movie, but that's not a Japanese origin game]

Stupid fucking dumbass movie makers... Let's let Uwe Boll make every game turned movie then, that'll win fans I'm sure.

At least D.O.A. wasn't made by him and instead directed by someone who doesn't suck. [Matrix fights anyone?]

Yeah, that'd probably get me to watch it, but they don't got boobs, wtf?!
"Strength lies in action. Let the weak react to me..." - Kamahl, Pit Fighter from Magic: the Gathering
"That is a mistake many of my enemies make. They think before they act. I act before I think!" - Vortigern from Merlin ('98)
"I AM REBORN!" - Dark Schneider Bastard!! OAV

Definately agreeing with you on the Uwe Boll comment, enough is more than enough.

Anyway, Entertainment Weekly recently reviewed D.O.A., and they liked it. It was given a B. They mentioned that yes it's dumb but it knows it is and that's somehow the charm. After seeing the trailer as nothing more than a re-hash of Mortal Kombat, I thought this was Dead On Arrival. Now I don't usually rely on EW for movie advice, but after reading the review I might consider seeing it, what the hell.

Seroisly, people must go into this movie forgetting what DOA is now, and thinking of what DOA was when it first came out. Sure DOA could be a serious flick about a semi-serious game... but DOA is a camp filled franchise that pokes fun at itself and knows that the girls are what most people are there for (XBV, anyone?) and this movie really does fall right into that category and feels right at home, in my opinion. I captures the camp of the franchise while letting the plot (which is there) take the back burner... just like the games.

Now if a Tekken film turned out like this, I would be the first to be angry, becasue that is a serious franchise that would've been turned into a campy comedy with action. But DOA? Nah... I mean, considering the source material, this is probably the best movie we could expect.

Leave the plot for the OVA series to tell, if they ever make one.
