Escaflowne WIP (70% done)
I've always wanted to do a serious Escaflowne AMV for quite sometime now, but I figured before I begin I needed to get a little warm up with all the clips.
And so I spent the 10 days working on a huge side project: using clips from just about every Escaflowne episode (plus the movie) to DJ Pluse's Where Ever You Go vs Superman (So the lyrics are more for the mature).
It's been great so far, but I'm starting to slow down at the 70% mark (the thing is 7 minutes long, of which I only have five minutes of video). And so I was wondering
A) What do you think of it so far
B) Do you have any suggestions
C) Should I edit the audio clip to end it at five minutes, or should I try to finish the other two minutes
Because I don't know yet and the video is still in its original size, it is a pretty big file (75Mb). I do plan on resizing it for better quality once finished, but for now it'll have to do (it shouldn't hurt my 40Gb monthly bandwidth too much).
It is my third video, still using Windows Movie Maker. Once again I tried to synch it in every way possible, and think it came out pretty good. There are a few glitchly clip transitions I would like to touch up, but other than that and any suggestions you make I'd say the first five minutes are ready to be judged.
I would appreciate opinions, and would gladly return the favor.

What do I think of it so far:
- Well, it starts out fast, which is GREAT. A dance music video to Escaflowne is a very original idea.
- The lip sync is GOOD. Especially since I don't like Amano (or Allen) and prefer Hitomi with Van.
- Action sync works as well. "Slap to the face", hehe.
Suggestions:
- The footage looks pixellated at times. But who am I to talk- visuals are usually the lowest score in my AMVs.
About the audio:
- Do cut it down to 5 minutes if you can. You would otherwise lose the attention of people. Plus I think you have enough scenes to make your point across.
Honestly, I think this is one of the best AMVs I have ever seen. But I like Escaflowne and fast/dance songs. Your hard work, effort, and skills and ability show.

Thanks Scandia, I'm downloading yours as I type this.
Yeah, even though there are only two singers I think the song splits nicely between four major alternating parts (Hitomi, Van, Dilando, Allen). I prefer Hitomi and Van more as well, so Allen got the parts he deserved
Thanks again, those are the kinds of C&C I was looking for.

He actually says a more vulgar word, but to me I always heard slap so I figured it can still work.Action sync works as well. "Slap to the face", hehe

Cryrid I saw your OP.
I truly hope that scene did NOT kill your mood of the video. It's some villain that's choking her. And she calls out her friend's name even though she's inside the fortress. And even though her friend is outside, he still senses that she needs help. It is meant to be a shocking scene at first- but when you see her crying her friend's name at the end and his replying, then it suddenly makes sense.
Guess this scene is too obscure to be understood without watching the anime. Can't think of any other scenes that would have fit so well and would have had such a dramatic impact. That one shows the psychic connection and sacred bond they have. What a great guy he is to always be there for her.
Hopefully this scene does NOT ruin the video for anyone. I had not heard comments about it before, though I knew from the beginning that it would be one of the hardest to understand. I have heard comments about stuff seeming random at a few points- but mainly from people who have not seen the anime.
About the text- some days it is my favorite part of the AMV, some days I wonder if I did the right thing. But I like it overall. Could not help but think of Beru Bara upon seeing it.

I probably should have sync'ed it better. If I knew then what I know now. I probably should have used various parts from that episode- not just the choking-calling-responding part. Maybe parts where he comes in to rescue her.
Man, I'm such a perfectionist when it comes to things I truly love.
And I hope nobody dislikes the video for its (or my) imperfections.

hmm I hate this song by eminem... The girl singer parts on the other hand are nice ;p
Anyway My only suggestion, is this sounds like a dance song. It needs more synch. lots and lots and lots more. Make it a dance/upbeat vid in the style of the song, since you have no chance in matching all those lyrics to make a serious vid to this song only using esca footage. Also do try to get rid of that Divx logo in the corner of some of your footage, its very distracting ;p
As is, the video quickly looses interest because there isn;t a whole lot of synchage, and the scenes do not match the lyrics or form any kind of story telling to hold interest otherwise, in otherwords, the visuals apear mostly random to the music, though timed fairyl well. If you are only going for beat synch as the point of the video, then you have to do it REALY well to keep it interesting. more of it, and more variations. I usually don't like to give comparisons to other vids since its like saying, loook this vid is better than yours! and thats not my intent. But Odorikuuis a good example of the sortoff synchage I'm refering to if you don't understand what I mean. ofcourse this vid is a totally diferent concept and the exact same ediing style wouldn't work for this video idea, but I mean in the amount of stuff the creator has going on on the screen to synch with. Thats what I mean by lots more synch.
Hope this helps ^^
