Compressing Your Video - Introduction

At this point in the guide, you should have made your amv, exported it either losslessly or using a native hardware codec and made an avisynth (.avs) file that does all the filtering and resizing you need.

Now you have to choose how to compress it. If you haven't already, then read the Distribution Codecs guide for a summary of the major distro codecs and which ones you should choose. We've written guides for the ones we think are the best for amv distribution.

If you want to encode DivX 3.11a video then use ErMaC's nandub guide, but this method is old and inferior to XviD.

If you want to encode XviD then follow my guide on it.

Lastly, if you want to encode MPEG1 or MPEG2, follow the TMPG encoding guides.
