JOURNAL: Ash (Ash )

  • They Can't Take That Away From Me - the making of (part 1) 2002-02-08 15:39:22 Yes, that's right; that's the title to my new video! But man o man, I'm tired... I've been editing all day long now and I'm beat. My eyes are square!

Well, the editing has been going very smoothly; I haven't encountered any real hardships (yet). It's also going a lot faster than I thought - I'm already halfway! In just one day (a whole day)! But it's still pretty fast I think. It really pays off to work by script!

The hardest thing to do uptil now was to increase the length of the music. It originally lasts for 2 min and 58 sec, but with some really neat and seamless cutting I've managed to increase it up to almost 5 minutes! And I'm going to need it. I'm actually not sure anymore if 5 minutes is enough... I might have to increase to 5 min and 30 sec, or maybe even to 6 min...

I exported the first half just before writing this, and I have to say it looks, sounds and feels great uptil now! I'm really proud of the opening scene, because it instantly sets you in the right mood; unlike some other amv's where you really get into the vid after watching the first half.

Ow yeah, know what happened today?! I usually have Morpheus running all day and I suddenly got a message from another user, asking me if I had more clips of Faye Valentine! I was like; what the hell you talkin' about man?! But then I suddenly realized that all the scenes I'm using in my amv were shared, and just laying there for people to download! Mistake mistake mistake... It's not ready to be premiered uncut ya know...

Well, it has been a good day of editing and if everything keeps going the way they are now, I'll probably have it finished in a day or 2-3!
I'm gonna give my eyes a bit of rest now.

    Babye,

  • Just a note 2002-02-08 07:24:45 I noticed that the time you see on the left of my journal entries is way off from where I live (The Netherlands). To get the correct time add 6 hours to the time on the left of the journal entry.

  • Tragic youth = Tragic AMV 2002-02-08 07:09:56 As I'm currently working on the Bebop vid (read below) I just realized how tragic my first vid actually is. I just made it knowing absolutely nothing about how to actually create a good amv. I used canned transitions, zoomed in like crazy at some points, added x-ray for no particular reason and used subtitles(!) as text... go figure. The only one good thing is that I think I matched the footage to the lyrics quite good and the drama which I was aiming for is in there. (You really should see it; come to think of it, it is pretty funny... in a weird kind of way)

Well, during the time between the creation of Tragic Youth and now I've learned a lot new things and aquired a lot new skills concearning amv creation. I read a lot; the guides on this site were very usefull too! But also very important is that I took the time to actually sit down and try out everything in the programs I use, which can be very annoying sometimes, because they have a tendency to do exactly what I don't want!

By now I have full knowledge for the use of Photoshop and Premiere and I'm in the process of learning After Effects, which is also a very powerful program (just take a look at Tainted Donuts, by Eric Kobet).

I'd like to ramble on, but if I do, I would be late for meeting my friends and they will kick my butt...

    Babye,

  • Blackouts suck bigtime!! 2002-02-07 12:26:51 Aargh!! This sucks; I had this cool script for my new Bebop amv, but I was too lazy to work it out on paper. When I was done cutting scenes and fired up Premiere I didn't know where to start anymore!! Major blackout!

Lesson 1; don't be lazy as me - it'll burn ya bad!!

But I've already made a change of plans. The song I was going to use was Wo Qui Non Coin, which can be heard in episode 24: Hard Luck Woman, with the vocals of Aoi Tada; voice actress of Ed! But on second thought I had to discard it; it didn't bring out the emotions I was aiming for.
On to another song which would fit better; as I stumbled on a cool instrumental piece of music on one of my jazz cd's - You Can't Take That Away From Me, by Mel Torme (which probably none of you know...). It features a BEAUTIFUL sax tune throughout the whole song, with the mood setting jazzy background offcourse; it's so Cowboy Bebop-ish!!

The new vid will be about the Bebop characters and the things that play in they're heads and the important decisions in their lives - so it won't be JUST SPIKE! (What a relief..!) Sigh...

Well, I'm off to dinner now...

Lesson 2: eat good kids; a good and healthy nutrition is very important if you want to create!

    Babye for now,

    Ash
