I've recently been watching this series when I remember the files are on the laptop that I carry around with me everywhere on campus. This anime takes a lot of concepts and elements I (and much of my social circle) love combined with exotic character designs and worlds, AWESOME soundtrack (none other than NOIR's Yuki Kajiura behind that) and a continually darkening plot line (with author/creator of evangelion steering this one).
The setting takes place in a VR Online Multiplayer RPG world. Three of the worse case senarios all happen in this.
1. The main character Tsukasa (antagonist or protagonist, it is impossible to tell, but he's the main character whichever he is) cannot log out of the world. I'm at ep. 4 in the series only, and he's been logged on for ten days... STRAIGHT.
2. Whatever's going on, even the Mods and Admins seem to be powerless in eliminating it (should be impossible ne?).
3. What Tsukasa does in game... can affect other players IRL.
It's a trippy world and the mystery and ominousness is increasing every ep, as things seem to get more complicated and dark the longer Tsukasa is allowed to do as he pleases.
This anime is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, especially among RPers, and fans of both cyber-punk and medi-eval fantasy, as this series combines the two genres nicely.
Dunno if you noticed, but despite only having seen 4 eps, this series is 3rd on my list of top anime at the moment now (I placed this over Lodoss OVA, that says a lot). GO, CHECK OUT .HACK//SIGN! =D

:/... blah, I want to speak up but dun wanna risk it.

I could try and joke in around in an evil little way in dropping a recommended track in the forum, but... I don't wanna end up throwing out the title of a track out there that I intend to use -.-.
Hehe, the underrated anime thread, one post in there increased motivation for one of the projects on "THE LIST". *sigh* resources needed... not unattainable, unlike some plans, but still not doable right away, and I'm an inpatient little bugger sometimes (like right now, WHEE). And I've got a mid-term exam tomorrow, WHEE, MORE FUN!!!...............I'm gonna go on a homicidal rampage tomorrow, y'know, I'm surprised that the mental age quiz put me at 18, despite the fact that I said I'd go on a homocidal rampage when angered. It gives me too much credit I think. The high school stereotype did better, it pegged as a Goth... I wear black... and am going to hurt you (well, those were among the answers I selected =P, not that I think that's what Goths are or anything).
I submitted Irregulars to MindWarp today, despite the fact that I wanted to get a better burn with the sound turned up (because the current copy is too low) but I won't be able to get to Doc's before the deadline :... so I'm stuck. Not too big a deal, hopefully.

I'm seeing a pattern
2002-06-04 15:07:37
It's like anime themes are ill chosen by default. It's amazing how easily I'm finding a theme from one anime series being far better suited for another. It's almost too easy.

I love being able to translate...
2002-06-02 15:40:36
Ah, I can't imagine anymore what life is like for an anime fan with no japanese knowledge. Ok, time to get off the ego trip and get to the point.
There's an irony involved in it all of it that I don't want to get into since it would give away the vid ^^. Hehe, I haven't even told her about this idea yet as well.
After first hearing it, and finding the mp3 too (trying to get CD now), I looked up the lyrics. It's always easy to find the romanized lyrics, finding them in english is another story - I found an incomplete translation - a couple of times - always the same level of incompleteness. I was able to finish it off myself. Dark J-Rock track, and I absolutely love it. I find that I lean easily to forms of rock for ideas these days, this surprises even me sometimes. Anyway, the irony involves the anime this track came from and what one of her comments about the series were in comparison to another series. This would actually allow one to put a darker twist on an already dark series.
But in the mean time I've got school to bitch with, and no clue exactly what I'm doing with the current assignment -.-. Blast, burnt out from the con last week, I was really mentally absent the last 2 classes that this assignment is for.

Ah, Anime North... so much for the pattern
2002-05-27 17:11:49
In previous years, Anime North kept getting better every year. Now don't get me wrong, I still had a lot of fun, although this year had more stress than usual (luckily, I've already taken major steps to avoid that for next time... scary), but this is the first time where AN wasn't as good as last year's. Last year's was over-crowded, and the hotel was not the best equipped, but AN was organized last year. This year, anything that wasn't a panel or anime showing was delayed by at least 20 minutes (those are the ones that got off easy). Where to go for what was confusing at some points too, as crowd control had some bright ideas (sarcasm).
The AMV contest, which is usually my fave event at the con (toss up between it and the J-Pop dance... this year definately made way for the J-Pop dance to take top spot) was plagued with problems this year. My vid, although not the one that suffered most but close, was more or less ruined. The biggest thing was the frequent skipping... it was over 5 skips in the 3 minute vid. An entire layer of music was missing (or so it sounded, apparently it was the treble that had been turned to the point of non-existence. This makes sense as the bass beat was sounding distorted it was so high). And, oh it gets worse, no contrast, which means MASS COLOUR BLEEDING. Any instance with green on black became barely visible (and it happens a number of times in Irregulars). Now, the skipping and possibly to some extent audio problems can be fixed by me simply not submitting on CD next time - this was the first and last time I submit on CD -.-. But there are still those that suffered worse than I did - 2 vids had no sound - to everyone's extreme annoyance, DokiDoki's among them.
The J-Pop dance had more crew added to it this year, and it rocked. Can you say extended? Can you say twice as long? Yeah, that's the story on the J-Pop dance compared to last year. I was there til the end at 4am (even though I was feeling burnt out by 3:30... but I was hypnotised by this one chick =)~~~ (whom I did get to dance with))... apparently my friends whom I entered with bailed around 2am, with one exception, the one who is also my main competition, who also ended up in someone else's room for the night (at 8am, walks in the door smiling, "hi"... it was a no-brainer since before I fell asleep, but it was still amusing). I still had a higher score from the dance though (technically, I wonder if the rules are gonna change between us next year *LOL*), but still had a somewhat annoying end note (oh well, not local, not a big deal, but still hurt).
Got to meet other AMV Creators at last, YAY! Got to meet Jay Locke, Nicole Barrs, Applejack (hehe, to all those sick of linkin part amvs... I loved that, but one of these days, heh >=), very cool people, it was great! That was at the AMV Panel 2... which costed me the Masq, but oh well, well worth it =)
Sunday, ooooch, I was fried from sleep deprivation by this point, suck much. It was still good, but lacking so much energy.
I learned that wearing contact lenses when sleep deprived is bad, REALLY bad, on Sunday I had to take them out and put the glasses on before 2pm I think - even though I couldn't see perfectly with them on since they are an old pair with an outdated perscription, ah, but I needed to cosplay. I was going as Setsuna from Angel Sanctuary. Got a surprising amount of compliments on how I look dressed like that (retro goth look?) from my friends, which was unexpected. Barely recognized in the halls though :/. Meh. It was fun and simply (read: last minute/contingency plan =P).
I actually bought absolutely nothing at the dealer's room this year. Usually I'm just really cheap, but this time it was absolutely nothing (hmm, good or bad, given current circumstances? Grrg, college and anime fandom can be difficult, ne?).
The only time of the year where, ooo, 4 different social circles converge at one place - Mississauga, Brampton, Cambridge, and (duh) Toronto! Man, that's what it is all about ^_^.
One thing I'm pissed off at myself for missing was the BBS Meet and Greet, there were some ppl I really wanted to meet there :(. Masq stuff got in the way, even though in the end I wasn't in it x.x. Beh. Yeah, the weekend is bound to have some frustrations, but it's about the ppl and so missing that really does suck. There's always a lot going on at the same time, but then there's the odd slot where there is nothing... hey wait a minute, that thing I was deprived of, sleep! Nah, doesn't happen =P. Hehe, speaking of sleep; INCRIMINATING PHOTOS!!! Hehe, that was amusing, however, questions on this subject will not be answered =P.
Hopefully next year is more organized (both on my end and the con's) =).
Wow, that's a rant. That's it for now ^^.
