Wow.... (Grave of the Fireflies)

Post by Vhan » Fri Oct 08, 2004 9:07 pm

I just finished watching Grave Of The Fireflies in my Japanese class. Has anyone else seen this? It's gotta be the most depressing anime I have ever seen. The ending just made me wanna lock myself in my room and just break down. It was SO sad. And, being a guy, I normally don't say stuff like that.

I think that most of us who has seen it (like me of course) will agree it's seriously depressing and makes you want to cry. It's best that everyone should see this at least once.

I've really been wanting to see this movie - is the english dub as good as the original?

I honestly don't know since the anime club played it subtitled. :?

But given the caliber of the entire movie, Central Park Media wouldn't even DARE skimp on the dub (unlike their other releases), so I believe the dub is a success.

I have seen both the sub version as well as the English dub which was surprisingly very good. I must admit that this was the single most disturbing and depressing thing I have every seen. I went full circle through the emotions of extreme anger and sadness. I now understand much more than I ever wanted to about war and its after effects which seem to always hurt the innocent much more than the ones who start the bloody wars themselves. I regret any child having to suffer this way and anyone who has to watch a child suffer like that. My distaste for the human race in general, and all the evil caused by it was both justified and increased by watching this.

This was another yet great Ghibli movie - Hotaru no Haka
That movie had a strong impact towards the war. I ended up welling up throughout the movie as well. And just sat there for awhile after the movie thinking. Yeah, thats what good entertainment does to you.
Lurid Enchantment - ICYCLOUD
urban suite - TRYTHIL
大切な思い - BAKADESHI
Expansion - RESK

well i dont realy think you can call something like grave of the fireflies "entertainment" . its a much deeper experience, and thiers certianly nothing entertaining about the movie. captivating and moving are more fitting words.
