What ruins amv, no story or subtitled footage?

Typically dance videos and action videos have no story. Excellent videos completely absent of story but with a ton of effort and innovation have been made (ie "Shonen Bushido). By saying that no story kills a video, you're killing off the majority of two genres.
So yeah, having a "story" isn't determining of whether a video is good or not. Subtitles usually mean laziness, complete lack of experience, or both, and I've yet to see a video that was good with subtitles left all over it. But I'm sure it's possible to make a good video with subtitles, if the viewers are able to ignore them, which formerly I was able to...until I started editing.
So yeah, subtitles definitely.

when i see a video with subtitled footage thats good, I want to tell them how to remove the subs mostly.. cause it almost hurts to see a good editorer that is either too lazy to take that extra step or someone who doesnt know how... GAH!

Logos - They don't bother me.
Subtitles - Try my best to ignore them.
Format (wmv, mpg, avi) - As long as it's not .mov, .rm, or other similar formats/codecs that only open up in Quicktime or RealPlayer, it doesn't really matter to me.
What ruins any AMV (for me) is a lack of concept, a lack of substance, and most importantly, a lack of editing. Also anime/music mismatches; (when you see anime/music combos, you're familiar with the anime and the song, or just the song itself, and you know right off the bat that they just can't fit together at all, and you know that it wont make for a good video, regardless of concept), but they might work sometimes, and determining mismatches varies from person to person.
I've seen AMVs with horrid quality, no story, and pointless subtitles, but they had a concept, substance, and good editing. One of them is one of my top 10 favorites.
I've seen vids with concept and editing, but no substance.
My vote: No concept, no substance, no editing.

I used to use digisubs. And yes SUBTITLES is the sux0rs...
I've made lots of story and non-story amvs and nobody's complaining.

My vote is subtitles.
I've seen a lot of "good" AMVs ("good" meaning people have recommended them, they have high op scores, high hits, etc) that have no plot or story whatsoever, but damn, are they ever pretty. The edits are right on, the effects aren't bothersome, and you can tell the creator really put a lot of time in on the video...I enjoy those immensely, even though the plot or story may be lacking.
On the other hand, I've seen a couple of AMVs that had killer storylines/concepts that just got ruined immediately when the first subtitle appeared. It's always distracting.
